At the MEMS Industry Group’s annual executive conference, MEMS Executive Congress, conducted on 2 to 3 November 2011 in Monterey, California, participants have explored MEMS technologies used in various electronic devices during the Congress’ maiden MEMS Technology Showcase.
As per Yole Developpement, the MEMS industry is increasingly fulfilling the requirement for video game controllers, laptops, tablets, mobile handsets, biomedical systems such as organ and tissue replacement, drug delivery, monitoring, and automotive applications such as electronic stability systems, airbags and tire-pressure monitoring systems.
MEMS Industry Group’s Managing Director, Karen Lightman commented that global developers of the MEMS supply chain have joined hands with major OEMs, technology press, market strategists and investment experts while involving in inspiring discussions on subjects, including foundry models, consumer MEMS and sensor networks. The MEMS Executive Congress has truly proved to be a networking point and business conference of the MEMS industry, Lightman added.
Lightman further said that numerous mobile-device applications based on the MEMS technology will be developed in the coming years. MEMS are ideal for gesture recognition, increased reality and location awareness, she said. Quality-of-life applications, which enable older people to lead an independent life, will turn out to be more common, she said. Control, manufacturing and energy monitoring are growing and automotive safety systems are experiencing growing demand, she added. MEMS will be an integral part of intelligent embedded systems, she concluded.
