IUS Technologies Introduces Innovative Distribution Transformer Monitors Using Carbon Nanotube Technology

IUS Technologies today unveiled groundbreaking distribution transformer monitors the TM1000 and TM2000 from the floor of DistribuTECH, the leading power transmission and distribution event in the United States. Using carbon nanotube technology, this new generation of monitors combines total combustible gas (TGS), temperature and load monitoring readings to provide real-time notification for single and three phase distribution transformers.

The newest additions to the Born Smart™ line of smart grid sensing devices by IUS Technologies, TM1000 and TM2000 introduce an accuracy rating of 0.2% to remote transformer monitoring, providing a complete view of equipment health outside regularly planned manual inspection periods. Utilities that implement these devices can expect to see reduced transformer maintenance costs and optimized asset lifecycles.

“Transformer monitoring allows utilities to be proactive, no longer having to allow equipment to run to the point of failure,” says Sang Lee, CEO of IUS Technologies. “This has tremendous implications for facilities where dependable electricity can literally mean life and death. TM1000 and TM2000 vastly improve the reliability of critical load distribution transformers, which control service to establishments like hospitals, emergency 911 dispatch centers, and similar providers of vital services.”

Establishing baseline readings for any transformer, TM1000 and TM2000 are equipped to immediately detect normal, abnormal, caution or dangerous conditions and send alert messages either when predetermined conditions are met or supply a constant stream of information. Seamless integration with the entire Born Smart series of sensors enables utilities, co-ops and municipalities to make these monitors part of a comprehensive smart grid solution.
