Report Buyer, has added a new report which comprehensively analyses the MEMS industry, from end customers to devices and equipment and materials manufacturers.
"MIS'08 - Status of the MEMS Industry" finds that the MEMS business will reach $8 billion this year, with strong growth in the consumer applications segment. It will also see growth in most of the applications in the automotive, medical and industrial business segments. In volume, the growth of the MEMS markets will reach 30% per year.
The study will provide a complete update of the MEMS applications, analysing the market trends for each application and identifying the involvement of key industrial companies. It contains an overview of the new companies created in 2007 and the first part of 2008, information on the new investments made, and details of mergers and acquisitions made.
Authors of the report say that a large number of devices under development in the last five years are now in commercial use (such as pico projectors, MEMS oscillators, RF switches, night vision micro bolometers) and will fuel the growth of the MEMS business for the next next years.
Analysts say that even MEMS packaging is changing with the introduction of wafer level packaging on a large scale and also with the introduction of 3-D packaging in order to save costs and show environmental benefits.
The study points out that from $7.8 billion in 2008 to $15.5 billion in 2012, the average growth of the MEMS markets is expected to reach 13% in value and 33% in volume. 2.5 billion units have been produced in 2007 and it is expected that 8 billion units will be produced in 2012.
The publications finds that when it comes to production equipment, the market will grow from $310 million in 2007 to more than $650 million in 2012.
