Nanotech Solar Cells For US Soldiers - New Product

Konarka Technologies Inc have developed a thin sheet of flexible plastic that can be given to soldiers to recharge batteries for walkie-talkies, night optical gear and other electronics with the power of the sun.

Army field testing on the plastic should be completed by the end of the year and could then be issued to all soldiers. Unlike normal solar cells that are built on silicon or glass, the Konarka cells use nanotechnology to coat titanium dioxide crystals with a light absorbing dye.

The cells can even be manufactured in camouflage colours.
