Background

Dr. Sharmila Mitra Mukhopadhyay is Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and Director of Center for Nanoscale Multifunctional Materials at Wright State University. Her interests are in nano-materials, surface and interface phenomena, and multidisciplinary materials education.

She received B.S. and M.S. degrees from Indian Institute of Technology and Ph.D. from Cornell University. She joined the Mechanical and Materials Engineering Department of WSU in 1997 after working as Post Doc. at Rutgers University and Assistant Professor at Polytechnic University.

Dr. Mukhopadhyay has published over 100 papers and reports and has obtained over 3 million dollars in research funding from federal and state agencies such as NSF, DOE, AFOSR, AFRL, NASA, OBOR, EPA, as well as industry. She serves on several review panels and boards, including the Executive Committee of the ASM-Dayton Chapter, Editorial Advisory Board of Met. Trans., and multiple community outreach organizations. She has organized several national and international symposia, and is past chair of the Electronics Division of American Ceramic Society. She is listed in "Who's Who in the World", "Who's Who in America" and "Who's Who in Science and Engineering", and is an elected Fellow of the American Ceramic Society.
