Background
Since 2002 Prof. Flemming Besenbacher has been the Director of the Interdisciplinary
Nanoscience Center (iNANO) at Aarhus University. Since 2002, he has also headed
the iNANO graduate school. He serves on the boards of the Carlsberg Foundation
and the Carlsberg Breweries. In 2007 he was knighted by the Danish Queen.
Prof. Besenbacher is one of the pioneers in Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM)
studies of nanocatalysts, the surface chemistry of oxides, molecular self-assembly
and dynamic studies of surface chemical reactions. His SPM group takes part
in numerous interdisciplinary project involving researchers from departments
ranging from physics and chemistry to biology and medicine.
Prof. Besenbacher has been awarded numerous scientific prizes and several
honorary professorships and is on the editorial teams of several scientific
journals. He also has more than 400 publications to his name in scientific journals,
several patents and collaborates extensively with a series of industrial enterprises.
