The Department of Earth Sciences of the University of Western Ontario is proud to announce that it will continue offering the most popular and well organized annual Short Course in Modern X-ray Spectrometry (XRF2009) from June 1 to June 12, 2009 at its main campus in London, Ontario, Canada.
XRF2009 is a tightly integrated two-week course on fundamentals, instrumentation, qualitative and quantitative analysis and sample preparations. The course is designed to enable the participants have a good understanding of the XRF techniques, both WDXRF and EDXRF, and their applications, as well as to develop skill for carrying out routine analysis. The 2 weeks can be taken separately, with the first weeks covering the basics and the second week covering advanced calibration and mathematical matrix correction techniques.
This course has been offered since 1990 and has continuously improved through the years to take into account for new knowledge and directions of modern X-ray spectrometry. A special hands on Sample Prep Workshop will be offered during the first week on June 5th.
This course has been recommended by all major XRF spectrometer manufacturers to their users as a basic training requirement for successfully running a modern XRF laboratory. These companies are also the sponsors for many social events during the two-week period as well as a scholarship fund for university/college students registered in this course who intend to pursue the work in X-ray spectrometric analysis.
