Waters Exhibits MassTrak Solutions Ideal for Liquid Chromatography Applications

Waters Corporation (NYSE: WAT) is showcasing its portfolio of MassTrak™ solutions at the American Association of Clinical Chemistry annual meeting and Clinical Lab Expo July 25 - 29, 2010 in Anaheim in exhibit booth #4447.

Waters portfolio of MassTrak Solutions for the clinical laboratory combines the power of separations science, tandem mass spectrometry, specialized chemistries, software, and support services in ways designed to optimize laboratory processes. Waters MassTrak Solutions shorten turnaround times and increase sensitivity, specificity and flexibility of assays for therapeutic drug monitoring, toxicology, and endocrinology when compared to traditional tests methods.

This year's AACC conference features more than 27 presentations on applications for LC/MS including a poster being presented by Waters scientists in collaboration with clinical scientists at Newcastle Hospital, United Kingdom on Tuesday, July 27. Applications for liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry for the clinical laboratory are growing largely due to improvements in accuracy and precision, speed of analysis, and ease of use.

Waters-Sponsored Industry Workshop

On Tuesday, July 27 Waters is hosting a workshop on MassTrak LC/MS/MS Solutions for the clinical laboratory. The workshop provides customer based information on current LC/MS/MS best practices and will be helpful for those laboratorians considering implementing LC/MS/MS in their laboratory.

Featured presenters include:

  • Gary Friedman, MD, Medical Director – Infectious Disease, Transplantation, and Immunology, Novartis
  • Denise McKeown, Toxicology Research and Development, St. George's Hospital in London
  • Les Perry, Ph.D., Principal Clinical Scientist, Dept. Of Clinical Biochemistry, Barts and the London NHS Trust.

LC/MS for the Clinical Laboratory

For many years HPLC and mass spectrometry have been considered to be powerful technologies, but complicated to integrate in a clinical environment. Today that is no longer true. Innovative HPLC, user-friendly mass spectrometer and software, coupled with dedicated reagents are now enabling laboratories to develop and validate methods of analysis and solve challenging analytical problems that have been impossible to resolve with conventional techniques such as immunoassay.

Waters has developed the MassTrak™ range of integrated system solutions to meet the needs of clinical research laboratories, transplant hospitals and reference laboratories. Waters® MassTrak™ Systems bring the power of tandem mass spectrometry to the clinical research laboratory adding new levels of sample throughput, sensitivity, specificity and flexibility for therapeutic drug monitoring, toxicology and many other clinical research applications.

Waters is also a corporate sponsor of AACC's Tandem Mass Spectrometry in the Clinical Laboratory Certificate Program. The intensive nine-course, online program is taught at the basic-intermediate level and covers the principles of mass spectrometry, MS maintenance and troubleshooting, MS installation, and preparing standards and reagents, CAP compliant validation protocols, and quantitation procedures for LC/MS/MS.
