The National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC) and Bangkok Botanica from Thailand have entered into a research contract agreement, whereby NANOTEC Nano-cosmeceuticals Laboratory will work to develop disposable gauze containing metal or metal oxide nanoparticles capable of performing sterilization and antibacterial function.
Under the terms of the agreement, the research period will be for 13 months starting Sep 1, 2010 and will include testing of compound activity, anti-septic, and anti-inflammatory applications.
Commenting on the occasion, Dr Ubonthip Nimmannit, NANOTEC Research Leader, said, "This is a good opportunity to utilize our expertize in the area of formulation especially encapsulation in nanoparticle, nanoliposome, and nanoemulsion. We are pleased to be in a position to provide assistance to a local business entity."
"It will be interesting to see how metal nanoparticles can assist in the healing of wounds" said Mr Kitipun Manosittisak, CEO of Bangkok Botanica. "The research finding will greatly enhance our ability to provide quality product, with proven scientific research and proven medicinal properties to our clients," he added.
