The Global Cleantech 100: A Barometer of the Changing Face of Global Cleantech
On October 13th and in collaboration with the UK's Guardian newspaper, Cleantech Group's Richard Youngman, Managing Director Europe & VP, Global Research will unveil the second annual Global Cleantech 100, a list highlighting the most promising private clean technology companies in the world providing insight into the next generation of global clean technology breakout companies.
Distinguished Speakers Set to Address and Challenge the Global Cleantech Innovators
Cleantech Group is proud to announce keynote speaker Dr. Arun Majumdar, the first Director of the Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E), US Department of Energy, the country's only agency devoted to transformational energy research and development. Prior to joining ARPA-E, Majumdar was the Associate Laboratory Director for Energy and Environment at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and a Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley.
His highly distinguished research career includes the science and engineering of energy conversion, transport, and storage ranging from molecular and nanoscale level to large energy systems. In 2005, Majumdar was elected a member of the National Academy of Engineering for this pioneering work. At Berkeley Labs and UC Berkeley, Majumdar helped shape several strategic initiatives in the areas of energy efficiency, renewable energy, and energy storage. He also testified before Congress on how to reduce energy consumption in buildings. Majumdar has also served on the advisory committee of the National Science Foundation's engineering directorate, was a member of the advisory council to the materials sciences and engineering division of the Department of Energy's Basic Energy Sciences, and was an advisor on nanotechnology to the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
Also speaking will be Congressman Steve Israel, New York, United States Congress. Congressman Steve Israel represents New York's 2nd Congressional District, including the Long Island communities of Huntington, Babylon, Islip, Smithtown and Oyster Bay. He was first sworn into Congress in 2001. Israel is a member of the House Appropriations Committee. He serves on the Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee, which funds the Department of Energy and Army Corps of Engineers; the Financial Services Subcommittee; and the State and Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee, which funds the U.S. State Department and all U.S. foreign policy activities.
Congressman Israel was appointed to the Select Intelligence Oversight Panel, which consists of only 13 Members who review budgets and programs by the US intelligence community. The panel was a key recommendation of the 9-11 Commission.
In addition to Dr. Arun Majumdar and Congressman Steve Israel, speakers have already been secured from: Deloitte, Deutsche Asset Management, GE Power & Water, General Motors Ventures, Hartford Ventures, Johnson Controls, Lockheed Martin, Newalta, Piper Jaffray Private Capital, and Veolia Environnement.

The Forum will also feature the Entrepreneur Showcase, which provides capital-seeking cleantech innovators with 10 minutes to pitch top cleantech investors, financiers and corporate buyers. Key participants include BuildingIQ, Contour Energy Systems, Mission Motors and Fluitec. Over 500 cleantech entrepreneurial growth companies have presented at Cleantech Forums in the past nine years, with over 50 percent of these companies securing financing totaling more than $1.9 billion.

Keynotes for the Forum include Kevin Parker, global head of Deutsche Asset Management, who will be speaking on the future of financing a low carbon economy and David P. Steiner, CEO of Waste Management, who will be address the future of waste and environmental services.
Attendees will be able to watch the Cleantech Group host the NASDAQ closing bell ceremony via live feed, which will be proceeded by a strolling networking dinner for all attendees at NASDAQ.
During the New York Forum event winners of the second annual Global Cleantech 100 list will be announced in collaboration with UK's Guardian newspaper highlighting the most promising private clean technology companies around the world.
