California-based Toshiba America Electronic Components has added the SmartNAND to its NAND flash series. The SmartNAND 24nm flash device family combines 24nm flash technology with a control chip to enable error correction code (ECC). It is provided in densities from 4 to 64GB.
The series has been developed to help remove ECC from the host system, reducing protocol modifications. It enhances host-side design and use in applications such as handheld media players, tablet PCs, digital TVs, and set-top-boxes that call for high-density, non-volatile memory.
The series replaces the existing 32nm devices. Its rapid controller and internal interfaces deliver enhanced read and write speeds and performance. It can be customized and enables multiple read and write speeds such as four read modes and two write modes.
It also enables maximized high-capacity and high-performance. Error correct control is essential in digital products to enable specified performance levels. These features in a single package offer customers high capacity, improved flash memory for good error management.
