Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST) has declared that its Ultrastar enterprise-class solid state drive (SSD) portfolio has become the first in the industry to use 25 nm single-level cell (SLC) NAND flash.
The Ultrastar SSD400S.B portfolio is a result of Intel’s expertise in developing sophisticated SSD technology and high-endurance SLC NAND flash memory and Hitachi’s knowledge in enterprise hard disk drive (HDD). The drives also comply with Enterprise A Security Subsystem Class encryption standard of Trusted Computing Group, thus assisting customers in protecting their sensitive data and decreasing their expenditures related to drive reuse and retirement.
Hitachi GST’s Vice President of Product Marketing, Brendan Collins stated that the company’s SSDs are intended to offer lower total cost of ownership and optimal performance. The company’s new 25 nm SLC SSDs allow its enterprise customers to have an SSD with superior data protection without compromising endurance, reliability and performance.
Hitachi GST offers the Ultrastar SSD400S.B family in 400, 200 and 100 GB capacities. The portfolio has a 2.5" 6Gb/s serial attached SCSI (SAS) interface. It features sophisticated power loss and data integrity management technologies that provide total end-to-end data reliability and protection and ensure compatibility with multi-tiered SSD or HDD system designs.
The new SSD family demonstrates a SSD sequential throughput of up to 502MB/s write and 536MB/s read with 6Gb/s SAS. It also provides up to 25,500 sustained write and 57,500 read IOPS with a speed 100 folds more than that of conventional hard drives, thus quickening response times of real-time transaction process.
Intel Non-Volatile Memory Solutions Group’s Vice President and General Manager, Rob Crooke stated that the migration to the advanced 25 nm SLC NAND strengthens the promise of Hitachi GST and Intel to offer unprecedented endurance and performance in the Ultrastar SSD400S.B portfolio.
