MEMS Industry Group, the trade association developing MEMS across worldwide markets, will conduct a two-day conference program on MEMS in vertical markets at ‘Sensors in Design 2012’, a four-track event at DESIGN West.
Sensors in Design 2012 will be held from March 28 to 29, 2012, in San Jose, California. During the MEMS track at Sensors in Design 2012, A.M. Fitzgerald & Associates’ Founder and Managing Member, Alissa Fitzgerald will chair the track titled ‘MEMS.’ Titles of the presentations to be delivered in this track include MEMS Enabling Healthcare Maintenance and Monitoring: Improving Quality of Life; MEMS in Consumer Products, Hand-held Electronics and Mobile Devices; and MEMS Sensor Fusion and System Design.
MEMS Industry Group’s Managing Director, Karen Lightman will chair the track titled ‘MEMS and Smart Sensing.’ Titles of the presentations to be delivered in this track include ‘Sensors for the Smart Grid’ and ‘Smart Sensor Product Roadmaps.’
Since MEMS devices have been embedded in wireless sensor networks, quality of life applications, automotive safety systems, video games, laptops, tablets and mobile phones, the integration of these small micro-machines with mobile operating systems, software algorithms, microprocessors and DSPs is ever-increasing in order to enhance consumers’ experience with electronic devices.
MEMS Industry Group’s Managing Director, Karen Lightman stated that for instance, one can find an electronic compass, MEMS microphones, a gyro and an accelerometer while reverse-engineering the iPhone 4. Earlier in 2012, Samsung started the shipments of the first RF MEMS devices for a commercial application, and in the near future a mobile handset OEM may soon integrate pressure sensors in phones to perform indoor navigation. MEMS are employed in numerous applications, and design engineers are focusing to better understand the capabilities offered by MEMS in the software-hardware ecosystem.
