Lattice Semiconductor and United Microelectronics have declared a long-term technology partnership through which they will carry on their ongoing work on non-volatile products based on sophisticated technology nodes. The two companies will also accelerate their efforts to integrate other product lines of Lattice Semiconductor.
Lattice Semiconductor’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Darin G. Billerbeck stated that the company has identified the significance of a scalable non-volatile technology as it is involved in increasingly power- and price-sensitive markets, ranging from consumer mobile devices to communications infrastructure. The company obtained such a technology through its SiliconBlue acquisition in December 2011. And now, the company’s long-term technology partnership with United Microelectronics provides it a foundry partner, which is capable of delivering novel products rapidly utilizing that technology. The company has already joined forces with United Microelectronics and intends to unveil 40 nm non-volatile products produced by United Microelectronics by 2012 end. The company is also focusing on the development of advanced generations of its major products at the 28 nm node.
United Microelectronics’ Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Shih-Wei Sun stated that the company is happy to extend its collaboration with Lattice Semiconductor to introduce its forthcoming 40 nm and 28 nm products to the marketplace. The company’s 28 nm HLP process is designed to fulfill performance criteria without compromising on cost efficiency and low power, thus providing competitive edge to Lattice Semiconductor in the low-power FPGA market. Moreover, the company’s ongoing capacity expansion and construction of Phases 5 and 6 at its 300 mm Fab 12A will meet Lattice's long-term, cutting-edge production prerequisites.
