EXFO and DiCon Fiberoptics Co-develop MXS-9100 MEMS Matrix Optical Switch

EXFO Inc. announces the launch of the MXS-9100, jointly developed with DiCon and available exclusively from EXFO. DiCon Fiberoptics' MXS-9100 MEMS MxN Matrix Optical Switch is optimized for use with EXFO systems and software control, and allows any M input fibers to connect to any N output fibers in a fully non-blocking manner.

Today's network equipment manufacturers (NEMs) are facing multiple challenges. They need to test multiple devices and instruments running at multiple rates all in the right sequence. They require exceptionally fast switching times and low optical loss so there is no compromise on performance and budget. EXFO's MXS-9100 delivers fast protection switching at the fiber layer and automation of test sequences in design, verification and manufacturing systems, allowing NEMs to increase automation and share multiple devices between tests while using the right application at the right time.

Furthermore, in the R&D environment, decreased CAPEX means that labs can no longer afford to provide each technician with a full suite of equipment to perform their tests, making centralized equipment sharing and automated network testing the norm. EXFO's MXS-9100 provides physical-layer connectivity for the sharing of high-value equipment. The MXS-9100 delivers instrument-grade performance ensuring maximum signal fidelity, with high stability and repeatability while being protocol and bit-rate independent.

DiCon's all-optical cross-connect technology provides the unique combination of low insertion loss, fast switching and very high reliability required by engineers in their lab or manufacturing environments. With its remote control capabilities using SCPI commands over Ethernet, the MXS-9100 is the perfect solution for the sharing of centralized instruments or automated tests in manufacturing.

The MXS-9100 is available now. For more information, visit the MXS-9100 Web page.

Please visit EXFO at the OFC/NFOEC Conference at the Anaheim Convention Center from March 19 to 21, 2013 in booth 2212 for a demo of the new MXS-9100.
