LiqTech International Inc.,, a clean technology company that manufactures and markets highly specialized filtration technologies, today announced that its silicon carbide (SiC) membranes are now National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) Certified. LiqTech’s membranes were tested and certified by NSF International to NSF/ANSI Standard 61, which means they are now approved for usage in drinking water systems.
The NSF/ANSI 61 is a performance based standard which ensures that components used in water treatment systems aren’t leaching any harmful substances (ie – metals such as lead, chemicals, toxins, etc.). All of LiqTech’s SiC membranes product offerings have successfully passed the toxicological testing required by the NSF. In addition, in order to receive this certification, LiqTech’s production (facility) had successfully been audited by NSF.
LiqTech’s ceramic membranes made of Silicon Carbide (SiC) can be used to replace sand filters, cartridge filters and traditional polymer/ceramic membranes. The potential for SiC membranes in the drinking water production is diverse and the benefits numerous. Some applications are, but not limited to, ground water with the removal of precipitated salts like iron, arsenic and manganese; surface water with the removal of organic suspended solids and humic acid; and sea water with the pre-filtration before reverse osmosis (RO).
Mr. Finn Helmer, Chief Executive Officer of LiqTech, stated, “We are extremely pleased to receive NSF Certification, which is a great endorsement for our SiC membranes. We believe this is an important accomplishment as we applied a mere six months ago with NSF, an independent organization, to get our membranes NSF/ANSI 61 certified so they can be used in drinking water systems. Obtaining certification isn’t an easy task as the NSF carries high, strict standards in order to protect the public’s health and conducted several inspections and rigorous testing of our membranes in order to meet its standards. This certification is of utmost importance to LiqTech as in many cases it’s a pre-requisite for one’s components to be used in drinking water systems. We believe it will give us the necessary endorsement to offer our membranes in the large drinking water applications marketplace.”
