A special track added this year to NanoIsrael 2014, the 4th international conference & exhibition, in collaboration with Israel's Ministry of Defence R&D arm (MAFAT), will focus on defense-related applications of nanotechnology.
According to Prof Uri Sivan of the Technion, the first head of the Russell Berry Nanotechnology Centre at the Technion, who is chairing the scientific committee this year, top representatives from the US and Israel military, together with senior executives from Israel's leading defence contractors and top academics will discuss the most exciting new technologies and applications in the field. "The whole event is expected to draw over 1,000 participants from Israel and around the world, including Nano related companies, venture capital experts, institutional and organizational investors, regulators, government decision makers, leading scientists and researchers."
In addition to academic projects, a "Golden Nuggets" session will feature 12 projects which are on the verge of commercialization. These projects have already proceeded beyond the academic level, but still have not become start-up companies. "Past projects presented at this session have gone on to succeed as start-up companies," says Prof Sivan.
An exhibition of models (DEMOS) will take place this year as well at NanoIsrael. It will be featured at the Matimop booth – the Israeli industry centre for research and development, part of the office of the chief scientist in the Ministry of Trade & Industry. Twenty models of nanotechnology-based products will be presented, allowing the attendees to gain practical exposure to the products of nanotechnology research.
"We look for ways to convey the message that this is not just high level science but that it has diversified uses in the real world," explains Prof Sivan.
The NanoArt competition will take place again this year. About 400 scientific research posters will also be presented. Awards will be given to the Company of the Year, to the Product of the Year and The Tenne family prize will be awarded to the Young Scientist. In addition, prizes will be presented to the NanoArt winners and the poster session winners.
NanoIsrael 2014 will be held on March 24th-25th, at the Tel-Aviv David Intercontinental Hotel, Israel. Rafi Koriat of INNI and Nava Swersky Sofer are the conference co–chair persons.
NanoIsrael 2014 is held in cooperation with the Israel National Nanotechnology Initiative (INNI) and the nanotechnology centers at Israeli universities, and is supported by the Ministry of Trade & Industry, the Foreign Ministry, key companies, universities and organizations from Israel and abroad.
