MIG, SIMIT and SITRI Host MEMS Industry Group Conference Shanghai

MEMS Industry Group (MIG), in partnership with Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology (SIMIT) and Shanghai Industrial Technology Research (SITRI), will host MEMS Industry Group® Conference Shanghai, a two-day event exploring the global MEMS and sensors supply chain, with particular focus on Internet of Things (IoT) opportunities in Asia.

"With its booming entrepreneurism in the consumer electronics industry, a fertile ecosystem for R&D, and an extremely competitive supply chain, China represents a huge potential market for MEMS and sensors," said Karen Lightman, executive director, MEMS Industry Group. "For all of these reasons, it makes good strategic sense to hold this conference in China, and attendees will benefit in numerous ways. The product and product engineering managers, as well as the business development professionals in attendance, will gain firsthand access to the companies and organizations that are driving forward MEMS and sensors -- and the myriad of applications they enable."

Leveraging Semiconductor Industry
MIG's two keynote speakers represent both the mature semiconductor manufacturing industry in China and the emerging entrepreneurial sector. Dr. Herb Huang, director of semiconductor manufacturing, SMIC, one of the leading semiconductor foundries in the world and the largest and most advanced foundry in mainland China, will give the opening keynote:

"Ongoing partnership between the MEMS and sensors industry and semiconductor manufacturing will continue to move all facets of electronics applications forward," said Dr. Huang. "MEMS and sensors companies can achieve greater economy of scale and faster time to market through the advanced fabrication and packaging technologies plus wide-ranging IP solutions that semiconductor foundries such as SMIC have refined over years. This allows them to more easily meet market demand for the highest-quality MEMS and sensor devices, empowering a widened spectrum of applications."

Path to Entrepreneurism
Joseph Xie, CEO, Shanghai Quality Sensor Technology Corporation (QST), a start-up developing MEMS sensors, will give the closing keynote:

"Entrepreneurism in the MEMS industry is alive and well in China. We are seeing great strides in innovation in both device design and manufacturing," said Mr. Xie. "Organizations such as Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology provide infrastructure-level support, including R&D. We also have access to some of the world's top foundries, and we can build close connections with OEMs in diverse markets and global regions. There is a path to commercialization in China for those who seek it. I look forward to sharing our experience with attendees of MEMS Industry Group Conference Shanghai."

On September 12, attendees will enjoy a Jiading Internet of Things City Tour, followed by a Dinner Cruise with MIG, SITRI and SIMIT aboard the yacht, the Shanghai Xinhang Shangde.
