Thin Film Electronics ASA (“Thinfilm”), a leader in the development and commercialization of printed electronics, announced today that it has been named the winner in the “M2M, Internet of Things, Sensors, RFID and NFC” category of CTIA’s annual Emerging Technology (E-Tech) Awards competition.
CTIA, The Wireless Association, is an international organization representing the wireless telecommunications industry. The E-Tech Awards recognized Thinfilm for advancements in smart systems that can extend the boundaries of the Internet of Things (IoT) by bringing sensors and connectivity to everyday objects, even disposable goods. More than 50 industry experts, analysts and media examined and scored the nearly 300 entries across CTIA’s award programs to determine the finalists and winners.
Thinfilm’s printed smart systems can combine with smartphones and other mobile devices to bring the benefits of electronic intelligence to new markets and applications. For example, Thinfilm recently demonstrated the industry’s first printed NFC-enabled Temperature Sensing Smart Label, an integrated system label that combines printed electronics technology, real-time sensing capability and NFC (near-field communication) functionality. These labels allow organizations to address a wide range of important business and consumer applications such as freshness tracking, temperature-controlled logistics and cold chain monitoring.
“It is an honor to have such a distinguished group of industry experts recognize Thinfilm as the leader in the incredibly competitive Internet of Things category,” said Dr. Davor Sutija, chief executive officer of Thinfilm. “This award reflects the importance of Thinfilm’s technology in a mobile-first world and recognizes the potential of printed smart systems to facilitate digital intelligence, sensing and connectivity in new and exciting applications.”
Announced at Super Mobility Week, the E-Tech Awards recognize the most innovative emerging mobile services, solutions and technology from areas such as the cloud, network equipment, M2M and the Internet of Things.
In its category, Thinfilm competed against industry leaders including AT&T and Spansion. Winners in other E-Tech categories included Samsung Mobile, VMWare, Opera Mediaworks, and Nokia.
