Using Nanotechnology and Complexation to Formulate and Improve Solubility of Water-Insoluble Bioactives

Zymes LLC announced that it has signed an exclusive agreement with Kaneka Nutrients L.P. for the co-development and co-marketing of water-soluble KANEKA QH(TM) (Ubiquinol) using Zymes' PTS. Under the terms of the agreement, Zymes and Kaneka will co-market the water-soluble liquid and powder formulations of PTS / Kaneka QH (Ubiquinol) for use in food, beverages and dietary supplements in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The agreement also provides for a non-exclusive co-marketing agreement for PTS / KANEKA Q10(TM).

"Considering their technical expertise, Kaneka was the ideal partner for Zymes' technology," said Benjamin D. Mamola, Chief Operating Officer at Zymes.

Zymes' water-solubilization technology, PTS, uses nanotechnology and complexation to formulate and improve solubility of water-insoluble bioactives. Zymes, founded on efforts to deliver the health benefits of CoQ10 in an aqueous form, holds worldwide exclusive rights to PTS from the National Research Council of Canada (NRC). Zymes' PTS delivers stabilized GRAS-affirmed PTS/CoQ10 and PTS/Ubiquinol for use in liquid and powder formulations. The technology provides for reduced particle size averaging 25 nanometers, thus providing solutions for clear beverage applications. Stability and product application testing has been successful and will continue under the agreement.

Commercial manufacturing of Zymes' PTS has commenced through one of Zymes' manufacturing partners. Commercial scale and quality will help satisfy the demand of Kaneka QH(TM) and Kaneka Q10(TM) for food and beverage applications.

"We are thrilled to have partnered with Zymes for the delivery of water-soluble KANEKA QH(TM) (Ubiquinol) and KANEKA Q10(TM)," said Kazuhiko Fujii, Senior Vice President of Kaneka Nutrients.
