Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and its related Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM) brethren are generating the fastest growth and most creative innovation in the microscope industry. However, as with most of microscopy, the AFM/STM market is poorly understood. This lack is especially critical because of AFM and STM’s expanding role in hybrid instrumentation and resulting impact in materials science, nanotechnology, and nanobiology.
Microscopy/Microscopy Education (MME), long known for customized on-site courses and market studies which reflects the customer’s voice for new instrumentation, has received many requests for trends in this arena. As a result, MME and its parent company, The Microscopy & Imaging Place, Inc. (T/MIP) have launched the first ever global market study on AFM and STMs.
AFM and STM practitioners from around the world have been invited to participate. The results will be presented by five different perspectives: geographic area, title, and discipline as well as type of work and lab. While specific invitations have been issued to over 10,000 microscopists, researchers, and technical staff, all AFM/STM users are invited to participate by clicking on the general link to the study: https://www.surveymonkey.com/?ut_source=mp&ut_source2=zoomerang-powered-by-surveymonkey&ut_source3=header
All completed entries will be entered into a drawing for one of three special prizes. The winners, one from each of the three major geographic areas represented on the study (The Americas, Europe & Russia, Pac Rim, Asia and India) will be announced at www.MicroscopyEducation on March 18th.
“Although we have been doing market research since 1991, we rarely have the opportunity to gather feed-back from the global arena,” cited Barbara Foster, MME’s President. “This is a rare chance to hear from Scanning Probe users around the world. We know that the resulting information will fill a critical void in understanding this sector of the microscopy market and help the growing number of instrument manufacturers to better meet their customers’ needs.”
Microscopists are welcome to provide input through Friday, March 13th. The results will be tabulated and combined with an executive summary into a for-fee report, with a projected publication date of March 31.
