A manufacturer of accurate positioning solutions and products for mobile control, asset management, mapping and GIS, civil engineering, agriculture, construction, and surveying markets, Topcon Positioning Systems (TPS) has launched the Aquila hybrid microscope in North America.
The Aquila hybrid microscope has the ability to increase its magnification from 30x as an optical microscope to 50,000x as a scanning electron microscope (SEM). According to company resources, this novel hybrid model offers key benefits that enable to expand the application of SEM technology. The microscope is compact measuring 0.3m2 and enables easy file management and imaging. It is easy to load the sample, and does not require any screws or tools for assembly. It incorporates optical navigation mapping for quick target achievement and re-positioning and ensures point-and-position control of rotation and image. It does not require any separate computers or pumps and ensures complete annotation control of distance measurement, angle, and size of the image. All these features are integrated in a single design.
Ray O’Connor, President and CEO of TPS, stated that Aquila hybrid scope incorporates the power of a SEM and the flexibility of an optical microscope into a one single cost-effective, compact, and simple package. According to him, the simple design and functionality of Aquila enables the instrument to create images without a learning curve. Although Aquila can be considered as the company’s positioning instrument, it has applications in numerous markets, particularly in water management, education, forensics, and mining fields, he added. Apart from these, O’Connor identifies that this device has practical applications in micro-mechanical, quality control, food industry, materials analysis, metallurgy and metal analysis, and air and water monitoring systems.
