Entegris disclosed their plans of opening an advanced technology manufacturing facility that would be involved in producing 450 mm semiconductor wafer handling products and Extreme Ultraviolet Light reticle pods.
Entegris plans to deploy the new manufacturing unit at Colorado Springs. At the new unit, Entegris intends to manufacture wafer handling products that would support the new 450 mm wafers. The production unit would span 40,000 square foot and would boost the manufacturing presence of Entegris in Colorado Springs.
Bill Shaner, The VP and General Manager of Entegris, explained that the plan to set up the new unit was an effort to support the migration of many semiconductor manufacturers to 450 mm wafers. Shaner added that the reason for narrowing down on Colorado Springs as the location of the new site was due to the already existing wafer handling expertise in that region and the patronage received from the Regional Economic Development Corporation at Colorado Springs.
The 450 mm shippers and carriers at the new unit would reduce the transportation problems that the semiconductor manufacturers are likely to face during the migration to 450 mm wafers. Additionally, EUV lithography would also be carried out at the new unit. This technology would help the semiconductor manufacturers in making smaller and more powerful chips. During processing, the reticle will be protected by Entegris’s reticle pods from contamination.
